A simple way to read learn your Bible………………I Hope

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Last night I had a good conversation about how to understand scripture. I often forget that I have been doing this for so many years; having read through the entire Bible numerous times and studied it deeply also for many years. So back to basics bit: Instead of trying to give a detailed lesson on this, I thought I would just share some thoughts on the Bible and some easy methods of reading for understanding We believe that the Bible is the very word of God, totally without error in its original documents. Of course, we do not have those documents; so I have learned, with the help of some excellent Bible scholars , and have documented this fact: that the best texts we have are the Masoretic Text for the Old Testament and the Textus Receptus for the New. So, for me, if you want the best word for word translation; you should look at the YLT. Young's Literal Translation. However, it is hard to read because of the way the language is put together in the Greek. Its all kind of dyslexic, and jumbled kind of like a Yoda sentence. But it gives you the best exact words. For my study I still use the NKJV Bible, there is a newer version KJV 2016, (it is not actually in print, perhaps this is because our enemy does not want it in print?) By the way, the NASB and the ESV are excellent translations, even though taken from the lesser NU text. 97% of the time those “Modern English” versions are correct, the NASB has the best “thought for thought” translation, If you are really into getting the ideas, use the NASB then just check it to see where stuff is missing. Or you can just learn how to read the margins where it says that the TR adds these words; just know that they did not add the words, actually the NU took them out. And I said this was going to be short and simple?!? If you do not believe that the Bible is the Word of God, but somehow still believe in God, then pray about that, but you must be willing to listen. I did not believe in the Bible when I was first saved, it took the Lord about 3 months for Him to straighten me out on that one. Psalm 119:160 The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever . I would love to see everyone take this amazing course on the Bible online at Blue Letter Bible Institute website; by David Hocking, its called the History and Authenticity of the Bible. It is free but requires time. As anything important does, I do not know if it is as important as binge watching empty TV shows or binge playing e games is? You do not need to read entire chapters at each sitting, read a section of scripture. Look for clue words like thus, and or therefore. See if you can tell where the ideas are the same. Look and see if the paragraphs make sense as one idea, what would the theme be. Paragraphs are of course ideas, so use a Bible that has paragraphs. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS NOT TO FOCUS ON ONE VERSE IN A SECTION. The best example I have of this, you will see this posted at least weekly on Facebook. It is the verse from 2 Chronicles verse 14: 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Great verse’ always taken out of context and almost always used inappropriately, even by trusted pastors. This verse is the Lord speaking to Solomon after Solomon said the dedication prayer for the opening of the temple. This verse is part of a response from God that is 2 paragraphs and 8 verses long In the entirety of it. God is telling Solomon what would happen to Israel if they followed Gods’ ways or if they did NOT follow His way. In context it means that if you do the right thing God will bless you, but if you do not, He will punish you, pretty much destroy your land. No one knows that is what they are asking God to remember.mbe when they ask for that. Let’s not show Biblical ignorance by misquoting the Lord. If you learn your Bible, than it will strengthen your walk, and your effectiveness in the Lord. What good can come from praying or believing in false doctrines, caused by limited knowledge of His word? It is OK to use just one verse of scripture, like John 3:16. Just be sure to know the verses around it, you need to have their context or else you could be saying something that is in error, not even from the Lord. There are whole sections of scripture that contain error, for example: I am reading in the book of Job right now, there are large sections of error in that book! Places where Job’s friends are expounding on false premises. The bible contains places where people lied or said incorrect things, it is a narrative of humanity, therefore you need to be careful to look at the whole section. Once you find a section then read it through a few times. Pray first that God would show you His truth in this section of scripture, then the first time just read it though, the second time notice words that seem to be important, look at all the action words. Then look at the section to see if it is complete or had too much to be that one notion. Then ask yourself a few questions: 1. What does this section say about God? 2. What does this section say about me (or humanity)? 3. What is this section asking me to believe? 4. What does this section ask me to do? Not all sections have all 4 things present. But you get the idea, this will give you a good way to understand that part you read. Warning, there are some ideas in the Bible that you will never understand this side of heaven, in time you usually are able to get answers. But sometimes not. In those instances, just put it on the shelf in your mind, ask Him to reveal in His time. 1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. Know this, that all the doctrines (fancy word for teachings) that we need to know for Salvation and Sanctification are easily seen. Christianity is not a mystery; it once was but all of that was revealed in Jesus Christ. Colossians 1:26 the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory I suggest you check everything I write against scripture also. If you find a doctrine that you do not agree with here in these post then , please send me a private message so we can have a good discussion about it.
