False Prophets: Beware of “Special” Anointing(s)

Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

(For this post I am only writing about direct anointing from the Lord, not the anointing of oil upon a person, by another person.)

Some will tell you they have a special anointing directly from God.

Be careful whenever anyone tells you they have a “special” anointing from the Lord for anything. Look at these and first see if they are selling a book or something. Are they making money from their “anointed” ministry? Are they overly wealthy because of that? Nothing wrong with wealth but not to be gained by Gods ministry. A good living is one thing, but an obese wealth is quite another.

1 Timothy 6: 5 who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, [d]and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.

This is a sign of the false ones, the ones that are not content with the common life. These ones are often the same ones that tell you they have a “special anointing: from the Lord.

Just look at the life of Jeremiah one of the few prophets that we are told was actually anointed by God himself, before he was even born:

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah did not have much of s following, as far as I can tell he had one who was with him.

Watch the idea of some special knowledge or some special prophecy, that was the first apostasy on the church about hidden knowledge (Gnosticism). God has given us the Holy Spirit and His word so that things are revealed not hidden

Mark 4:22 22 For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.

As far as those directly anointed by God in scripture?

God anointed Jesus directly, he is the anointed one (Acts 10:38, Luke 4:18) He anointed Jeremiah and Isaiah directly (Jeremiah 1:5, Isaiah 61:1) He anoints all of us in the Church:

1 John 2:20-21; But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you[e] know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

The Lord Himself gives us knowledge through the scripture and the Holy Spirit. This is a general knowledge that we all share, not some special hidden knowledge. Like I said before, stay away from special prophecies.

Free from deception 1 John 2: 26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you ]will abide in Him.

All Believers have this anointing, to know the truth and the lie. But we need to be diligent about this, beware of deception:

Matthew 24:24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect

No pastor or church leader has any special anointing on Gods truth,

1 Peter 1:20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,

The best way to check these guys out, is to learn your Bible inside and out. Check what they say against scripture. Do not be deceived. Once again be careful, It is easy to have itchy ears to want to have some new or special word, but is what you are seeking truly from the Lord, or is it just some idea from a person? Be careful of those that have “visions” They may be from the Lord, and they may not be.

For example, this guy is going around telling everyone that he has a special “governmental anointing” Try as I might, I see no such thing in the Bible, anyway this guy says that God told him that the nations should follow “Biblical principles” to become financially sound. That is not a notion that Jesus ever talked about. Prosperity doctrine is an old Testament notion of doing well and receiving financial blessings. Besides, try and find one nation in this world that is not in debt: Even Israel, which many believe is God’s Chosen nation is over 300 Billion dollars in debt. Not exactly within that guys guidelines of “Biblical Principles”.

Do non Christian world-leaders want to hear this “anointed” one’s special message because of the promise of financial success? or do they truly desire the Lord?

It is kind of tricky that is why you need to be careful, but in the end it is all about Jesus, it is actually not about doing what Jesus does, it’s not about following principals, it’s about following Him

We are told to make disciples, if there is physical prosperity attached to it, then great, unless that prosperity causes the Church to stumble. Which, oh by the way, is exactly what happens in the USA. We are to be content with our basic needs as we just read in 1 Timothy 6. If you think that a person has a special call because “God has opened doors” then try and remember that Satan is the ruler of the ungodly, and that most of those involved may belong to him and not to the Lord. Not to say that God does not open doors, of course He does; just to say that the evidence of Gods will is to be seen in changed lives and even in changed cultures; not so much in search for new messages

Test it all. If things don’t happen as prophesied, then that one is to be shunned.

Like I keep saying; if God is moving there will be visible changes in the world. This is not measured by the size of Churches, size is often more of a sign that folks are getting stroked and having emotional experiences at church, not being trained up in the Lord and sent out into the world to do His will. Look at the cities where many of these giant churches are. Do you see that the place is now Godly? Are there signs in the streets and in the businesses of this? If that many people are in Him, what do they do with their lives during the week?

Colossians 1:10 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
